Numerology refers to the study of the supernatural and the hidden meanings of the numbers and also their influence and affects on our lives.

Chinese Numerology happens to calculate the lucky and unlucky numbers, the personality traits etc on the basis of Lo Shu grid, also known as the Magic Square. This square makes up a birth chart for understanding the numerological positives and negatives of a person. It is created with the help of 3 x 3 matrixes of numbers. Each of the squares in the matrix is given a specific number. The center square of the matrix is allocated with number 5. This magic square was discovered by Fu His, the Chinese Emperor about 4,000 years back.

The most unique and interesting aspect of this Lo Shu Grid is that the addition of any diagonal or row is equal to 15. It represents the fifteen days of the twenty four cycles in the Chinese Year. Basic Concepts of Chinese Numerology

The Chinese Numerology takes into count numbers starting from 1 to 9. 0 is not taken into account in case of any calculations. There are several basic concepts of Chinese Numerology that forms the basis of Numerology. These can be listed as below:

Yang Numbers: Yang Numbers mean the ‘odd numbers’ like 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, etc.

Unlucky Numbers: Going by Chinese Numerology, numbers that sound similar to that of words having negative meanings are considered unlucky. For example, Number ‘4’ and number ’13’ are unlucky. Number 4 sounds similar to the word ‘death’ while number 13 adds up to make 4; hence both the numbers are considered unlucky.

Feng Shui House Numbers: The numerology of the Chinese is based upon certain homophone principles. Homophone means having similar sound yet different meanings. Hence, going by Feng Shui, the words having similar sounds make a particular number auspicious or inauspicious.

Kua numbers: The computation of the ‘Kua number’ is done on the basis of the last two numbers of the birth year. The calculations are different for women and men. For men, the last 2 digits of the birth year are added till a single number is reached. This single number is then deducted from 10. For instance a man whose birth year is 2008 has 2 as its Kua number (10 – (0+8) = 2). In case of women, the last two numbers of the birth year are added to get a single number which is then added to 5. For instance, a woman with birth year 2008 will have 4 as its Kua Number (0+8) + 5 = 13: 1+3=4).

Chinese Numerology & the Five Elements

The Chinese astrology believes that the universe is created out of 5 basic elements, namely, fire, earth, wood, metal, and water. Each of these five elements has their special characteristics and is also associated with the numbers in Chinese Numerology.
