Hanukkah History

Hanukkah is the Jewish festival of lights. 'Dedication' as it means is the annual festival of the Jewish and is celebrated on the 25th day of Kislev which is typically the third month of the Jewish calendar. Hanukkah is celebrated for 8 consecutive days with much joy, cheer, passion and enthusiasm. The significance presence of the Hanukkah history which is again complemented with a number of traditional rituals enhances the spirit of
the festival to a great extent. Hanukah history unties the quixotic saga of the rededication of the temple. The holiday originated when Maccabee and his followers reclaimed the temple from the Syrian King Antichos IV. Hanukkah festival is completely an accolade to the rich Hanukkah history of the victory of the Maccabees over the Hellenistic Syrians in a revolt that took place around 165 BCE.

Another curious story also braids the Hanukkah festival and is an important element of the Hanukkah history. The legend tells of the pretty widow Judith who fed enemy Assyrian General Holofernes some cheese and wine to lull him to sleep and then beheaded him in sleep. In remembrance of this desperate deed a candle is lit each of the eight days of Hanukkah.
