Holidays in Major Cities

Derived from the words "holy" and "days", holidays in the beginning stood to embody particular religious days. In modern idiom, "holiday" has grown from being special days to being a comprehensive term for a single day to a period of time. It means an interlude in the form of a tour or as leisure, which in America, is called "vacation".In Canada, the word has come to imply a spree away from the precincts of home or a time off from work. A holiday is also a special day when you take a brief respite from work, when educational institutions as well as workplaces remain closed.

In ancient times, cultures calculated the calendar through the passage of the fall, or as the Anglo- Saxons would have it, by winter. The Germanic tribes of Northern Europe were acquainted with all other seasons of the year and arranged their holidays accordingly.The most brilliantly tinted autumn foliage is found in Canada, the United States and South America. In these places, tourism in this season has developed in the time of the fall when the leaves mature into a bright yellow. For instance, in New England in the States, the seasonal tourist industry has grown to embrace the inflow of tourists from the world over with the flavor of the locales.
