Chinese New Year is not just an occasion to celebrate the coming of the new year but is also seen as an occasion where one is in reunion with the lord. Chinese new year is also celebrated as the 'Spring Festival' or the 'Lunar Year'. New year celebrations in China begins on the new moon which falls on the first day of the new year. The festival lasts for nearly 15 days and is celebrated in good spirit in many places all over the world. Every new year according to the Chinese calendar is based on an animal sign. Throughout this 15—day new year festival people visit their dear ones and pay respect to the elders, special offerings are made to the god and Jade Emperor for prosperous coming days ahead.
