Marked by boisterous celebrations, New Year is a gala event in the United States. The holiday mood sets in right from the Christmas time. Marking one of the most important festivals of the US, New Year brings merriment all around.
People start the New Year celebrations from 31 st December itself. Many people make New Year's resolutions, others take New Year as an occasion for giving gifts and presents. New Year decorations are put up everywhere, right from shops, streets and houses. Wishes are exchanged between friends and family. Cards, cakes and many other delicacies mark the celebrations in the United States.
In the United States, New Year's Eve parties are a very common scenario. Thousands of people gather in Times Square in New York City, on State Street in Chicago, and in other public places. At midnight, bells ring, sirens sound, firecrackers light the night sky, and everyone sings out, " Happy New Year!”
Many people on New Year's Day, in the United States visit relatives, attend religious services, or watch football games on television. Some people attend parades, such as the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, and the Mummers' Parade in Philadelphia.
So as the 2007 rings ring, let's wear our party hats and say once Happy New Year!
