The Chinese Lunar New Year Calendar is prepared depending upon the sightings of the moon. In the olden days, The Lunar New Year calendar would be prepared in tune to the reigning dynasty in China. Hence it was made in accordance with the reigning kings wishes for implying a good and healthy relationship of the dynasty with the Heaven. With the change in the reigning dynasty, the Lunar New Year would also undergo change.

The Lunar New Year Calender would begin with a fight against a mythical beast called the “Nian” by the great lion spirit who would eventually drive it away. Hence lion spirit costumes are used in the celebration of Lunar New year. As the Lunar New Year is the major festival of the Chinese, China and many other neighboring countries go on 3 day to 7 days leaves during this period.

A celebration period follows, where the Chinese celebrate the Lunar New Year by having traditional feasts usually chicken and fish dishes, meeting parents, relatives and friends, praying to their ancestors, bursting fire crackers or enjoying a lion troupe dance. The Chinese wear red traditional costumes and distribute money in red envelopes to their young generation and near ones. Chinese people generally celebrate the Lunar New year for 15 days at a stretch.

Being the largest populated country in the world, The Lunar New Year Calendar of China is an important calendar used worldwide. With many important business and economies working in conjunction with the China and its economy, it becomes very crucial to check out the festival dates, holiday dates of the Chinese while dealing with them on regular basis. In the year 2009, the Lunar New Year Calender begins on 26th January.
