Different animals like sheep, cow, geese, and rabbits were in the ancient times used to shape the dough. The people in Poland believe the custom of baking doughnuts to bring wealth for the whole year. These doughnuts are called paczki in Polish.

Another important New Year custom followed by the people in Poland on New Year is hiding breads in the shapes of a ring, cross or a child at the dinner table. These were also used for telling fortune.

This New Year custom in Poland it is believed that if anyone found a ring, marriage awaited. A cross-found would indicate an entry into clergy and a child signified a child out of wedlock.

Yet another New Year custom that is believed by the people in Poland is that those who wake up early on the New Year’s Day will wake up early for the rest of the year. The customs in Poland take the ancient roots although some of the customs are followed even to this day.

The New Year custom in Poland is that when getting up from bed those who touched the floor with the right foot would expect good luck the whole year through.
