Earlier people decorated their horse drawn carriages to travel to special sporting events. This custom has now turned into huge parades in the morning and special football games held in the afternoon.

The midnight cacophony of sirens, party horns, church bells and pot signify the expulsion of evil spirit. According to the miscellaneous New Year traditions in Montana it is believed that the activities performed in the first day of the year would have reflection on the other days.
