New York is well known for its New Year celebrations. People from all over America come to the Times Square. The famous ball drop atop One Times Square has been a tradition from 1906.
A huge brightly lit glass ball descends as the clock strikes 12 at the New Years Eve night. It looks like a bright star as it falls through the darkness. When it reaches the ground, people in Times Square indulge in great merry-making. They throw tiny pieces of colorful paper into the air. People cry out “ Happy New Year” and sing into the traditional New Year song “Auld Lang Syne”. Those who are not able to reach Times Square watch this event on television.
Parades and masquerades are also popular New Year traditions in New York. Adults and children dress in colorful funny clothes and enjoy various performances. They listen to African and African-American stories and traditional Welsh music.
The midnight sky on the New Years Eve is dazzled with bright and beautiful firework lightings. Firework lightings have derived from the tradition of driving the evil forces away as ghosts were afraid of light and noise.Mostly appraised among the various New Year Traditions in New York are the New Year's Resolutions. We decide we're going to lose weight, take nutritious diets, quit smoking, maintain peace and harmony etc.
