New Year traditions in Oregon include fires, expulsion of evil spirits, and other celebrations. Plant and fruit trees are beaten with sticks, noisemakers are blown and fireworks are lit-up to drive the evil forces away as people believe that ghosts are afraid of light and noise.
Spectacular light displays and New Year parades are held all over Oregon. Miles and miles of lighted houses can be visualized in town of Keizer, Oregon. Famous is the Tournament of Rose parade held in the neighbor country California. The parade dates back to 1886 when members of the Valley Hunt Club decorated their carriages with flowers.
