The events that are associated with New Year's Eve in Mexico are The Posada and The Piñata. The Posada is areenactment of the event that is the searching for a rest place by Mary and Joseph. The custom that is associated with Posada is that a group of people wanders from house to house begging for an entrance into the homes of the citizens of Mexico. The people carry with them candles or sparkles and sing songs and continues to plead the people until they are invited inside the house and sometimes they are denied entrance. The Piñata is a three dimensional clay and paper star, that is stuffed with nuts, fruits and sweets and it is suspended from a rope.
A particular person is blindfolded and given a stick, and with that stick that person has to hit on The Piñata. People take turns and this game continues until somebody is able to struck The Piñata.
