| Fast of Tevet 10 | 7th Jan 2020 | On the 10th day of the Jewish month of Tevet, the armies of the Babylonian emperor laid siege to Jerusalem. | Passover | 19th April 2024 | Pesach, which is known as Passover, is one of the most commonly observed Jewish holidays. Pesach starts on the 15th day of the Jewish month of Nissan. The first major festivals with both historical and agricultural importance. it is harvest season and represents the beginning of this season. “Pesach” is the meaning to pass over or to spare. It is the most important observance related to Pesach involves avoiding chametz (specific food items that are prohibited during Passover). |
| Second Passover | 18th May, 2024 | Pesach Sheni or the Second Passover occurs every year on the fourteenth day of the Hebrew month of Iyar. It literally means “second Passover”. It was introduced in the law to provide an opportunity for those people who were unable to practice in the rituals of the Passover earlier. The roast meat, the matzo and bitter herbs, and the leftovers are to be burned. The difference would be the acceptance of leaven in the household. The overriding theme of the day is that god allows second chances for his people. Many Jews will eat again unleavened bread and hold special prayer sessions at the Western Wall. | Shavout | 8th June, 2024 | Shavout originated as an agricultural festival. The celebration of staring of the wheat harvest which continues throughout the summer. The day of bring an offering of new grain. It observed a scared occasion. Women and girls light candles on both first and second evenings, it is customary to stay up all night learning Torah. All family members should go to the synagogue on the first day of Shavuot to hear the reading of the ten commandments. Special meals are eaten and no work may be performed. On the second day yizor memorial service is recited. |
| The three weeks | 20th July, 2024 | Three weeks, the time between the 17th of Tammuz and the ninth of Av. It is at time of mourning called in Hebrew. | Rosh Hashanah | 29th September, 2024 | Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year is one of the Judaism’s holiest days. The seventh month of Hebrew calendar which falls during September. According this tradition god judges all creatures during whether they will live or die in the coming year. Work is prohibited on this day and religious Jews spend much of the holiday attending synagogue. On this holy day prayer services include distinct liturgical texts, songs and customs. After religious service are over Jews have a festive meal, some wear new clothes. |
| Sukkot | 13th October 2024 | It is a pilgrimage holiday that has also found its presence in the Bible. It is known also as the Shalosh. It is an agricultural festival that originally was considered for the fruit harvest. Sukkot is celebrated by building a Sukkah. Jews are required to eat for eight days and some even sleep duration of the holiday. The waving ceremony was performed at the temple in the ancient world. Fresh fruits, vegetables or other related ingredients meals are taken. |
