The Philharmonic Orchestra presents a program each year on New Year’s Eve wherein they play beautiful music right out of the repertoires of the famous Strauss family, as the symphonies of the music maestro fill up the air with nostalgia and if you are a music lover then you wouldn’t want to miss this for the world. This year’s New Year concert will be conducted under the guidance of Franz Welser-Most and is definitely a treat that your ears should not miss.

  • The Imperial Ball

The night is bid a royal adieu at the Viennese Imperial ball and with music and food with the ambience that just feels so regal, being in Vienna and not attending the Imperial Ball can be called equivalent to committing a crime.

  • The Street Celebrations

Open air music and New Year celebrations at Salzburg are of another level, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart the music in the city is wonderful. Besides the street festivals like Altstadt Silvester, Salzburg at its state theatre in the large festive Hall, conducts musical performances on Mozart. In Vienna on the other hand the New Year’s celebrations tart at around 2 during the day on the 31st if December on the streets and people revel in the New Year’s fever. Also boat tours on board the river Danube are also conducted on New Year’s Eve.

All through the country on the occasion of New Year’s you can witness firework celebrations and as Vienna has its share of fireworks at midnight and  other places like Innsbruck  has a n evening full of parades with brass bands playing at the Old Town followed by fireworks, Graz being the other city that you can witness spectacular fireworks at and Salzburg has its fireworks celebrations top Hohensalzburg Fortress.
