Tarot Cards (Major Arcana) – World

The World card is a celebration of completion of a victorious journey. Completion always leads to the beginning of a new one - this too is an exciting proposition. The ruling planet of this card is Saturn, which symbolizes time.

In the center of the card is a dancing female figure, who has one leg crossed over the other. A close inspection would reveal that the World card is in many ways the opposite of the Hanged Man.

The dancer looks infinitely outward. In each of her hands is a wand or baton which represents the evolution and balance that are essential parts of life.

The dancer is encircled in a thick green wreath that symbolizes success, victory, triumph, achievement and accomplishment. The wreath is tied with a red ribbon that signifies eternity. The ribbon has been tied in the shape of infinity symbol which is a reminder that positive efforts improve not only our lives but also our surroundings.

The stars of light within the wreath indicate attainment of enlightenment or spiritual consciousness.

There are four figures on each corner of the car. The figures represent the four life elements, the four suits of tarot, the four compass points, the four seasons and the four corners of the universe. The notable factor is that all these are within the sight and power of the dancer.

Upright Position: This card speaks of completion of a journey and also beginning of another. It says that realization would dawn upon the seeker and that major goals will be attained.

Reversed Position: Reversed, the card signals delays and interruption. The results will be obtained, but with time.

Tarot Cards (Major Arcana) – Wheel of Fortune

This card is full of symbolism. The card is ruled by the planet Jupiter which is generally associated with opportunities, growth and success.

The number associated with the card is 10, which is a higher octave of the number 1. According to the principles of numerology the number 1 is associated with empowerment.

There are four signs of zodiac in the four corners of the card » the angel in the top left represents Aquarius, the eagle signifies Scorpio, the lion symbolizes Leo, while the bull is Taurus. They have been given wings which suggest that even among stability there would be changes. Each of the four zodiacs holds a Torah in their hands » Torah has always been considered as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge.

On the wheel itself the Hebrew letters Yod Heh Vau Heh (IHVH) are written which represent the unpronounceable name of God. In between these letters are inscribed another set of letters » TORA when read anti clockwise or TARO when read clockwise. The snake descending from the left side of the wheel is considered to be personifying the Egyptian God of Evil, Typhon. It represents that the forces of life descend on the material world. On the right the Greek God Anubis is seen to be rising, representing wisdom that dawn on shallow human minds.

The Sphinx on the top of the wheel speaks of the riddles that life throws in our way. The middle of the wheel carries the alchemic symbols of the four essential elements of life » mercury, sulfur, water and salt. This speaks of formation and construction. The outer circle of the wheel personifies the material world where the eight spokes are the eight Sabbats of the year » the festivals that are celebrated around the solstices and equinoxes. The spokes tell of the Universal energy, while the blue background represents wisdom.

Upright Position: In a reading this card speaks of unexpected luck in the way of raises, promotions or prosperity. It may also signify some good news about your health. In short, fate will shower the subject with good fortune.

Reversed Position: Reversed, the card signifies a down time in life that has hit upon the subject unexpectedly. It may refer to ill health and misfortune. However, the wheel always turns up again. So this should be considered as a temporary phase.

Minor Arcana – Valet of Batons

The scene of the card portrays a young man who is standing in the middle of a barren wilderness. The man is extremely well dressed. The shirt of the man has motif of salamanders all over it.

Salamanders are mythical creatures that are associated with fire and change. The man holds a wand in his hands that has green leaves growing out if it - the greenness symbolizes fertility and creation. The man speaks aloud to himself of his dreams and desires.

He is looking up that is also a sign that he is aiming high. That he cannot keep his ideas within himself indicate the nascent stage of his thought process and also that he thinks for the moment only.

Upright Position: In a reading this card is associated with change and creativity. However, there is nothing planned about it - it is all about a spark of impulse. The Valet is passionate about life although he is not much experienced in the matters of the world. He acts as a catalyst to bring about change in situations where otherwise a change seems impossible. There is an innate restlessness about the Valet which is the result of all the energy and zeal that he has been blessed with. His appearance in a reading often suggests that the subject is about to experience something new or that someone new may enter her/his life. It may also be suggestive of good news that he brings to the subject that is a pleasant surprise.

Reversed Position: When reversed in a reading the card suggests that the subject has often tried her/his hands on new projects but perhaps not succeeded at most times. This is mostly because although the project is started with much enthusiasm there is lack of foresightedness and planning - it is all about impulse and spark and less about method and organization.

Minor Arcana – Two Swords

The Two of Swords card depicts a person wearing a full length robe sitting on a stone bench that rests on a flat grey ground.

The person is blindfolded, and holds two huge swords one in each hand. The arms of the person are crossed to let the swords angle upward forming a ‘V’. The bench is near a sea that is filled with rocks. A crescent moon is seen to be rising to the right side of the card.

Under normal circumstances, a crossed arm and swords in it would have conjured a picture of self defense. However, the person being blindfolded, this option can be crossed out. The blindfold indicates that the person lacks clarity of vision and mind.

However, the rising moon is a sign of awareness and intellect dawning upon the person. The rocky sea speaks of the obstacles that make the situation a difficult one.

Upright Position: This card is all about the choices a person may make in a difficult situation. It is about compromise, peace and diplomacy. However, trying to do so makes a person suffer internally as doubts and confusions cloud the mind and cause a conflict with self. The blindfold may indicate that the person is not properly equipped to make the correct decision.

Reversed Position: When reversed the card signals that the subject is closed about making any compromise. It may also suggest a mind that is so overburdened with information that it cannot pick out the relevant ones. It indicates getting entangled in a conflict.

The Two of Cups depicts a young man and a woman standing facing each other and seem to be exchanging cups in what is probably a wedding ceremony.

Between them caduceus of Hermes is seen. From times immemorial the caduceus has been considered as the symbol of physicians and healers. As such it is a symbolic representation of balance, health, protection, cosmic energy and union of opposites.

It also brings promise of proper moral conduct. Here the caduceus is seemingly sending a positive vibe so that the new partnership can thrive properly. Over the caduceus is a lion's head - a symbol of passion and energy that brings strong physical attraction between the couple, although it may be expressed or suppressed.

The two snakes that entwine the caduceus emphasize that in life the light and darkness coexist. The card brings the message that with respect, proper equilibrium and honor a union of even the opposites can be very rewarding.

Upright Position: This card portrays the beauty of a union where two become one. Traditionally the card speaks of harmony where sincerity, respect, affection and attraction makes a relationship thrive. The card can bring the news of engagement or wedding. It may also mean reconciliation. Apart from personal relationships, the card in a reading can also indicate formation of a business partnership.

Reversed Position: When this card appears reversed in a reading it indicates disharmony and imbalance in relationships. Jealousy and conflict in relationship would lead to separation. It may also warn of divorce or adultery.
