Chinese New Year In London

Chinese New Year is round the corner and it is not just China, Asian countries and followers of China Lunar Calendar who are gearing up to welcome it but preparations are also on in other parts of the world.

The festival is celebrated in a grand way in London each year with spectacular events lined up to celebrate the big day.

People can have a rollicking time during the Chinese New Year festivities. Entertaining dance performances, musical shows, acrobatics, firework displays and much more are on offer for people attending the festival. Myriad range of activities only adds to the fun of the celebrations.

The Chinese community in London celebrates the festival with great zeal. The celebrations for Chinese New Year in the city are considered to be the biggest affair outside Asia. The whole of Chinatown immerses in joyous celebrations to usher the brand new year. People descend on to the streets to be a part of the grand festivities. The place looks dazzling with lights adorning the façade of every home in Chinatown. People go bonkers as dragon and lion dancers take on the streets. The sheer excitement of partaking in the festivities is quite high. Restaurants, hotels, special public places all come alive on this festival day with interesting New Year themed decorations. Special Chinese New year delicacies are on offer at the cafes, eateries, sbars and shops.

People in London can also be a part of the parade which is supposed to be taken out in Trafalgar Square, Chinatown and Shaftesbury Avenue to welcome the Year of The Pig in 2019. The procession is supposed to be taken along the Charing Cross Road and Shaftesbury Avenue, starting in the morning. Artists from China will perform at the Trafalgar square parade. Lion dance troupes will also go round the Chinatown to spread good cheer and amuse revelers. At the end of the Dean Street, spectators can catch a glimpse of the performances by local artists and dig into traditional savories. Craft stalls will also come up on the streets, thereby giving people the chance to engage in fun craft making sessions.

Harrow Chinese School – the UK’s largest school established for promoting the study of Mandarin language and culture also celebrates the Chinese New Year by hosting the annual Chinese New year celebrations. The year of thePig 2019 is believed to be ushered by putting up dance performances by artists from China and Tai Chi performance. Musical shows and a drama by the students of the school will be performed to ring in 2019. Guests can also engage in games, enjoy delicacies and shop for goodies in stalls put up at the school.

The national Maritime Museum will also host a British East Asian heritage workshop with spectacular performances and traditional lion dances to be held as part of the celebrations. Visitors can also get an insight more about the trade and cultural exchange between China and London through these workshops, while celebrating the Chinese New Year festival with great delight.
